Safe Work NSW investigates another Manildra explosion

An explosion has shaken the Manildra Plant at Bomaderry for the second time this year.

Superintendent Nick Andronicus from NSW Fire and Rescue said, “It happened at about 7 pm on Saturday 11 November.

Nearby residents reported hearing a loud blast and some said their homes shook.

“Fire fighters wearing breathing gear searched for one worker who was located and three people were evacuated from the plant.”

Inspector Andronicus said, “An internal deluge system kicked in to extinguish the flames and damage was limited to the one area.”

A Safe Work NSW spokesperson confirmed, “Inspectors attended an incident which occurred at the weekend at the Manildra facility in Shoalhaven.”

Safe Work NSW said “Inspectors are making enquiries into the matter, but there’s no further comment at this time.”

A similar incident rocked the Manildra plant in July 2023.
