South Coast train chaos grows

July 24, 2025 9:12 am in by

The State Opposition has launched a scathing attack on the Minns Government over chaos on the South Coast rail line,

Opposition leader Mark Speakman said, “Across the Illawarra and South Coast in places like Dapto, Wollongong, Unanderra, Corrimal and Nowra, families wake up early to make their way to Sydney. For medical appointments. For a job interview. For a school excursion. Or just a rare day out together and they’re constantly let down.

For financial year 2025, this was the worst on record, with just 76.4% of services running on time. This trend does not show signs of improving, with just 63.9% of services in July 2025 running on time to date.

“That’s not a glitch. That’s a failure. A failure of planning. A failure of delivery. And a failure of representation,” Mr Speakman said.

Mr Speakman asked what do people have to show for Labor’s two years in office and three state budgets?

“A service that’s worse than ever and local Labor MPs who’ve gone missing,” Mr Speakman said.

Shadow Minister for the Illawarra and South Coast Natalie Ward said Maryanne Stuart, Ryan Park, Paul Scully, Anna Watson and Liza Butler have all had their chance to speak up.

“But when their communities are left stranded, they go quiet. Why?” Ms Ward asked.

The truth is, the Minns Labor Government is out of excuses.

You can’t keep blaming others when you’ve had the time, the money, and the power to fix it and didn’t.

The people of the Illawarra and South Coast don’t need another media conference where they shift blame, they need a train that turns up. They need leadership that shows up.
