Toxic warning for Shoalhaven River

November 25, 2024 9:32 am in by

A Water NSW Caution Alert is in place for the Shoalhaven River near Nowra Bridge due to the detection of Alexandrium minutum which can cause algae blooms and produce toxins that can harm people and marine life.

People should avoid recreational activities such as swimming, water skiing, canoeing and any other activity that brings them into contact with this waterbody until further notice.

A precautionary approach to eating fin fish from this stretch of river is advised. Any fish caught should be cleaned and washed thoroughly in uncontaminated water; the internal organs should not be eaten.
