Code of Conduct for Councillors using social media

facebook councillors

Our local Councillors will soon have to be very careful about what they put up on social media.

The Office of Local Government is now in the final stages of preparing a new Model Code of Conduct, which will provide clearer guidelines and standards regarding its use.

There was a recent case where the Civil and Administrative tribunal found a Mid Western Councillor had breached the existing code by criticising a fellow Councillor on Facebook.

Wingecarribee Councillor Duncan Gair says he has no problems with social media, provided it's used properly.
