Agreement signed with South East Wilton developer

Wollondilly Council has entered into an historic agreement with Walker Corporation in a bid to protect koalas at south East Wilton.

The agreement will set in stone a number of key actions aimed at supporting sustainable development and provide a positive impact on the koalas living in nearby bushland.

That includes:

 A koala habitat restoration plan
 Fencing around koala habitat areas to keep koalas off Picton Road and out of developed
 Significant upgrades to culverts to allow safe koala crossings under roads
 Clear signage of all habitat areas
 A koala monitoring program
 Information brochures for residents
 Permanent koala warning signs on Picton Road

Back in August a petition containing 13,000 signatures was presented to Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell at State Parliament.

The petition was launched by Wollondilly Councillors back in April after the Wilton South East Precinct was re - zoned.

Residents believe any further development would have a detrimental impact on the local Koala population.
