A man from Bowral has been charged with a number of alleged firearms offences.

Around 11:30 on Friday Night Police attended a car park in Mittagong where they spoke to a small group of men.

Officers found several pellets in a container near a vehicle.

A further search uncovered an air rifle and pistol which could be used to fire the pellets.

The 24 year old has been issued with a court attendance notice and is due to appear in Moss Vale Local Court next month.

Superintendent Chris Schilt from the Hume Police District says firearms are illegal to possess, without a licence of permit in NSW.

He's asking people to do the necessary checks with licensing Police and the Firearms Registry, before making a purchase.
