Police and Safety Authority ANCAP have used the Sutton Forest rest area today to demonstrate the difference between an old and new vehicle involved in a car crash at the same speed.
The two Toyota Corollas on display were designed 20 years apart.
In the older vehicle, the driver would've suffered severe injuries and died and in the newer one they would've been able to walk away.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy is asking people to makesure their loved ones are in a car that saves lives.
He says if parents can't afford to buy a safe car for their kids, then they should let them drive in their car.
Meanwhile ANCAP'S Chief Executive James Goodwin is asking people to always put safety first and says modern vehicles are designed to better absorb the impact.
