Plans by Racing NSW to build a world-class training centre for horses on the proposed Hume Coal mining site in the Southern Highlands is news to Hume Coal.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports a premier horse training hub would be modelled on something similar to Newmarket in England.
However Hume Coal Project Director Greig Duncan says their intention is for the land to be used for the proposed mine and for agricultural purposes.
He says he's surprised someone would take licence to go and make statements, without checking with the landowners first.
A final decision on the Hume Coal mining proposal won't be known until towards the end of the year.
The Department of Planning and Environment still have to have their final input along with the Independent Planning Commission.
