The Wingecarribee Reconciliation Group is welcoming the Government's commitment towards constitutional recognition for Indigenous people.
Indigenous Australians Minister Ken Wyatt told the National Press Club yesterday that the Government had a plan to hold a referendum on the issue within the next three years.
The Reconciliation Group's Deputy Chair Gus Johnson believes they can get majority support for the change across the nation.
He's pointed to the recent referendum on same sex marriage as an example where two in three people voted in favour and believes constitutional recognition for Indigenous people will be less contentious.
