A Rural Crime campaign has been launched in Goulburn with the aim of tackling illegal hunting, stock theft, trespassing and firearm theft across the state including the Southern Highlands.

More than 20,000 head of stock was stolen from NSW farms last year, costing more than $3.2 million dollars.

Superintendent Chris Shilt from the Hume Police District says there are many hobby farms across the Highlands, which are left unattended during the week.

Anyone who has any information about rural crime is being asked to contact their local Police Station or Crimestoppers.
