A number of schools in the Highlands feature on the New South Wales Education Department's asbestos register.
It was revealed in budget estimates this week that almost half of the state schools across NSW have some level of very dangerous asbestos.
Friable asbestos is particularly dangerous, because when it's touched it crumbles and can cause life threatening diseases.
Shadow Minister doe Education Pru Carr has told 2st that a reasonable action plan needs to be put in place to deal with the problem.
Schools with friable asbestos include Bowral High and Tahmoor Primary.
Schools with damaged asbestos include Bowral Public, Burrawang Public, Moss Vale High and Moss Vale Public.
