Whitlam MP critical of welfare drug testing

Drug Test

Member for Whitlam Stephen Jones believes the Government is using new welfare laws to distract attention away from the economy.

Under the proposed changes, people who test positive for drugs would be given drug counselling, and have part of their payments quarantined.

Mr. Jones says what the Government fails to mention is that the biggest group of unemployed people are those who are in their late 50's who've lost their job.

He says the idea has failed three times before.
