Federal Member for Hume and Energy Minister Angus Taylor says the country is already doing its bit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Taylor insists the nation is on track to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris target, which is a 26 to 28 percent reduction on 2005 levels by 2030.
He's told the ABC, Australia will achieve that goal nine years ahead of schedule.
The comments follow Friday's climate strike where it's estimated around 300,000 Australians gathered at various locations around Australia.
In Glebe Park in Bowral, the number was close to one thousand.
