A severe weather warning is in place across the Coast and Highlands for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
On the Coast there is also a warning for abnormally high tides and damaging surf.
The conditions are being caused by a coastal trough near the northern and central New South Wales Coast which is bringing increased rainfall and other severe weather to the area.
The trough is expected to deepen and gradually shift southwards, increasing rainfall and bringing dangerous winds and surf conditions.
Gusts in excess of 90 kilometres per hour are possible for coastal areas between Gosford and Coffs Harbour today.
As mentioned abnormally high tides are forecast and the sea water level may exceed the highest tide of the year between Nowra and Newcastle on Saturday morning.
