The majority of Wingecarribee Councillors have voted in favour of declaring a climate change emergency.
A large crowd packed last night's Wingecarribee Council meeting to hear the debate.
The vote was 9 - 1 with Councillor Graeme Andrews concerned about the use of the word ' emergency '.
The notice of motion which was passed will also result in council developing a Shire-wide community climate change emergency plan which will be reviewed annually.
Mayor Duncan Gair is welcoming the decision and at last night's meeting praised Councillor Gordon Markwart for living his philosophy.
