Costing and design work for the Moss Vale Bypass will get underway soon after Wingecarribee Council received $2.4 million dollars from the State Government.
The project has been in the making as far back as the 1960's.
A corridor is in place and the costing and design work is expected to take around two years.
Mayor Duncan Gair says there will be a number of challenges along the way as there's a gas pipeline which runs through to Sydney aswell as Optus cables, fibre optics and high tension power lines.
Although $20 million dollars has been made available for the project, Mayor Gair believes the final cost maybe as much as $30 million dollars.
