Electric vehicle tax could be on the table

The NSW Government could be putting a tax on electric vehicles based on distance travelled.

It follows a similar scheme announced recently in South Australia.

The tax could be a hindrance to companies like True Green, which is trying to set up Australia's largest electric vehicle manufacturing hub, here in the Southern Highlands.

People who drive electric vehicles currently avoid paying fuel excise which is 42.3 cents per litre.

CEO of the Electric Vehicle Council, Behyad Jafari believes the proposal hasn't been thought out properly.
