Anzac Day Bowral Update

Just confirming activities in Bowral for Anzac Day this coming Sunday.

Whilst most COVID restrictions have been relaxed many are still in place, in particular the need to register those attending events and social distancing.

A formal Dawn Service will not be held however members of Bowral RSL Sub Branch will gather at 6am for a very simple flag raising service which will include:

Raising of the flag
The sub-Branch will lay a wreath
Playing of the last post
One minute silence
Reveille

This activity will take around 5 minutes.

Members of the public are welcome to attend however please observe social distancing.

At 10 am Bong Bong St from the Boolway st Lights to the lights near the Imperial hotel will be closed to traffic, the same applies to the section of Merrigang St from Station St to Bong Bong St, these traffic conditions will remain until 12 noon.

From 10am Veterans, serving Veterans and one relative of a deceased veteran will begin to gather for a parade moving off from the Boolway St lights at 10-30am to the War Memorial.

Those in the parade need to register and observe social distancing.

At 11am a service will begin within the War Memorial Park, entry to the park is restricted to 200 seated persons.

Commodore Matthew Doornbos of the Royal Australian Navy will deliver the Anzac Day address.

Commodore Doornbos was born on the Gold coast and joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1990.

He has had many postings at sea and, ashore and overseas.

During his service he has commanded the Her Majesty Australian Ships Geelong, Ballarat, Anzac, Toowoomba and Stuart.

He was promoted to Commodore in December 2020 and assumed the position of director General Navy Information Warfare in January 2021.

He is married to Diane, has three boys and a family connection to the Southern Highlands.

Wreath laying at this service will be restricted to those organizations with a military connection, Schools, organization and the general Public are asked to, in they wish, lay a wreath before 10am or after 12 noon.

Spectators are welcome for all the events however please observe social distancing and if asked to register with any NSW Government agency that may be in attendance.

No seating will be provided outside of the War Memorial Park.

Bowral RSL sub-Branch advises that there are still some seats available within the park, as well they ask that those wishing to march and attend the service should advise John Cummins 48612150 before Friday 23rd April providing your name and contact number.

This will save the sub–Branch COVID Marshalls time on the day.
