Equality on the agenda

A new play based on the Robertson Potato Race is attracting plenty of attention.

Back in 2018, writer Melanie Tait noticed the race was paying $1000 for the men's race and only $200 for the women's.

She set up a Go Fund Me Page, which went viral and now the prize money is even.

The play called the Appleton Ladies Potato race, features totally fictitious characters and Director Nicole Freeman said there are a number of themes that come out of the production.

"It's about equality,

"The main theme obviously is about women's rights, but there are underlying themes about the rights of everyone to feel worthwhile, whether it be different races or sexual orientation," Ms. Freeman said.
