Local first-year apprentices who are experiencing financial or other personal hardship are being encouraged to apply for a $15,000 Bert Evans scholarship.

The scholarships which are worth $5000 a year help apprentices with buying tools, fuel, maintenance costs, training or cover the cost of living.

South Coast MP Shelley Hancock says as well as hardship, applicants need to demonstrate a positive attitude as well as the professional aptitude to successfully complete their training in addition to hardship.
