Strong winds have unexpectedly picked up dust particles from out West and are blowing it across the Eastern parts of the State.
The Bureau of Metrology says the cloud is impacting various parts of the State from the South, all the way through to the Queensland and New South Wales border.
Duty Forecaster Rebecca Farr says it varies depending on where you are.
"Some areas are thicker than others, but we do have this broad large trough feature that is moving through the whole of the state", Ms Farr said.
People with respiratory and other breathing difficulties are being advised to stay indoors.
A damp cloth may be used in the absence of a breathing mask.
