The owners of Nowra's iconic Roxy Theatre have slammed a proposal suggested to Shoalhaven City Council for a multiplex cinema in the Nowra CBD.
The theatre recently underwent a series of renovations to restore the former beauty of the building inside and out, as well as upgrading the cinemas to the latest in digital technology.
The report presented to Council by an independent consultant states Nowra needs to substantially upgrade its cinema offering in terms of scale and quality saying the Roxy is not ideal.
So far the report hasn't been endorsed by Council, Roxy Theatre General Manager Bob Brainwood says a multiplex could derail the family run business that employs 20 people and the fight is just beginning.
"There are a lot of people out there, that would turn around in a leased property and say oh well, I'm just going to close the shop up and do exactly what they've say", Mr Brainwood said.
"Well I'm a fighter, I'm a fighter from way back"
So far a petition to save the Roxy has over 1300 signatures.
