Measles scare NOT in the Shoalhaven

Assurances this morning a current measles scare in other parts of the country does not effect the Shoalhaven.

The 84th case for the year was confirmed late on Monday.. and the nation recorded 103 cases in 2018 and only 81 for 2017.

However there's no locally acquired cases and CURTIS GREGORY the Director of Public Health for Illawarra Shoalhaven Health District says it's up to us to ensure it stays that way. "So it's up to everyone to get what we call that 'herd immunity' up - and that's to get enough people in the community to get vaccinated to make sure that it's not spread. The target's 95%. Down here in the Illawarra/Shoalhaven we're actually doing pretty well. For five-year-old kids we're actually looking at 96.6% coverage and that should provide some pretty good protection."
