Raptor to help road safety

Kiama Council is trialling 'Raptor' crash cushions at an accident black spot near Crooked River at Gerroa, to improve road safety.

The Raptor, which wraps around trees and poles, is designed to reduce the severity of collisions by absorbing the energy of the impact.

Normally the car and its passengers feel the full effect of a collision with a pole or tree.

The Raptors are also designed to deflect cars in side-on collisions, reducing the tendency of vehicles to 'wrap' themselves around the pole or tree.
