Lake Illawarra Police have charged a man with murder and armed robbery following last Saturday's fatal car crash at Albion Park Rail.

Daniel Merritt died in the crash after the Ford he was travelling in slammed into a petrol tanker on the Princes Highway.

Inquiries suggest the Ford Territory was being pursued by another vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, at the time of the crash.

The 34-year-old man was arrested along with a woman on the Central Coast yesterday.

Lake Illawarra detectives travelled to Gosford following the arrests.

The woman's been charged with a number of offences over unrelated matters including assault Police and shop lifting.

They've both been refused bail and will front Gosford Local Court today.

Darren Butler who's also wanted for murder over the fatal crash is still on the run along with Holly Green.
