A woman has been rescued more than 17 hours after a single-vehicle crash south of Batemans Bay on Wednesday.

While travelling between Moruya and Wallaga Lake, her Holden Trax SUV has left the roadway and crashed into water sometime after 11pm on Wednesday trapping the 67-year-old inside.

Just before 4.30pm yesterday she regained consciousness and was able to alert a relative; however, was unable to provide a location.

Emergency services commenced a search operation and  used the mobile phone system to identify a potential location.

Within 20 minutes, South Coast police attended the Princes Highway at Kianga and located the Holden down an embankment, overturned in Kianga Creek.

The 67-year-old woman was rescued from the vehicle and treated for suspected fractures and exposure.

She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.
