Two arrested with Gerringong carjacking

A man and woman have now been arrested in connection with an alleged carjacking at Gerringong yesterday.

Just after 8 o'clock this morning, Police noticed a Mitsubishi, travelling on the Princes Highway at Broughton, but avoided a pursuit because of safety concerns.

The Mitsubishi then collided with another vehicle.

The offenders then drove the damaged car to a property in Austral Park Road where they allegedly stole a Silver Kia and continued driving towards the intersection of the Illawarra Highway and the M1, where it was forced to stop in heavy traffic.

The vehicle allegedly rammed another vehicle out of the way aswell as a Police car.

The Kia continued travelling on the M1 towards the intersection of Creamery Road where it collided with three more cars.

A 24 year old man and 28 year old woman fled the scene but were eventually arrested nearby and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

Two police officers from the damaged police car were treated for minor injuries.

No one else was injured.
