Construction on the new Nowra Bridge has been given the green light to go ahead.
It comes after Fulton Hogan Construction was successful in securing the design and construction contract.
The old bridge is around 140 years old and Member for Kiama Gareth Ward says it's reached the end of its serviceable life.
He says the first item of business will be to get rid of some of the unsightly homes along Illaroo Road which need to go.
This will happen over the next couple of weeks.
Both the State Government and the Commonwealth are contributing more than 340 million dollars towards the project.
