Bushfire inquiry hits the road

An independent NSW inquiry into the devastating bushfires will start visiting the affected regions.

Headed up by former NSW Police deputy commissioner Dave Owens the six-month inquiry will consider a range of issues including causes and factors contributing to the blazes, preparation and planning, hazard reduction and emergency responses.

Mr Owens can empathise with what people are going through,  after losing a Sydney home to fire seven years ago, before his Lake Conjola holiday home was spared this summer.

He says he hopes fire-communities will feel at the end of it that they had an opportunity to have their say.
