Woman's body found near Nowra - police appeal for dashcam footage

Forensic investigators are continuing to examine two properties east of Nowra after a 51-year-old woman was found dead inside a Numbaa home on Friday

Detective Inspector Scott Nelson from Nowra Police said emergency services were called to the home about 11.20am after a family member discovered the woman’s body.

“She’d sustained fatal injuries, and it was quite confronting for first responders at the time,” Inspector Nelson said.

A crime scene was established and investigations led to a 37-year-old man being arrested nearby a short time later.

On Friday evening the man was continuing to assist police with their inquiries, and no charges had been laid.

Inspector Nelson said the man was known to police, and police believed he and the woman knew each other, but “we don’t believe it is domestic violence related”.

Police also believed the woman lived alone in the home, but her movements and who she had been in contact with were part of the ongoing investigation, Inspector Nelson said.

Homicide Squad detectives were due to arrive in Nowra on Friday night to help with the investigation, and police have appealed for public assistance.

“We’re appealing for any person that uses the Comerong Island Road between Nowra and Comerong Island, that may have used that road in the past 24 hours, and may have any dashcam footage, if they could please contact us here at Nowra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Inspector Nelson said.
