Kiama man's death linked to COVID-19

A Kiama man's death in Wollongong Hospital has been linked to the COVID outbreak.

The man aged in his 70s passed away in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, with his death reported in today's COVID figures.

He had received one vaccine dose.

The five deaths reported during the daily COVID updated also included a Wollongong woman aged in her 80s, who passed away in Wollongong Hospital.

She had received two doses of the vaccine.

Both had underlying health conditions.

The daily update reported 62 new COVID cases in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, including five in Kiama and three in the Shoalhaven - one of which was linked to a known case.

There were also 34 in Wollongong, with 15 linked to known cases, and 20 in the Shellharbour Local Government Area, of which eight were linked to known cases.

Three cases were detected in the Wingecarribee area.
