Less than two weeks out from NSW schools fully reopening for face-to-face learning there's a concerning statistic coming out of NSW Health's weekly demographic breakdown of locally acquired COVID cases across the state.

Of the 10 age group demographic, the zero to nine and 10 to 19 categories have seen the most positive cases over the last seven days for the first time since the Delta outbreak began in Greater Sydney.

Almost 800 children up to nine years of age have contracted the illness in the last week.

NSW Health said the best way to protect kids from getting COVID-19 is to reduce the number of infections in adults.

"Getting vaccinated helps achieve this.

"Everyone aged 12 years and over is eligible to get vaccinated," Health said.
