COVID cases at lowest level in a month

COVID cases in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health district have hit their lowest level in a month.

Just 23 cases were recorded during the 24  hours to 8pm on Tuesday - the lowest since Tuesday, September 14 when there were 17 cases across the district.

Of the new cases recorded overnight three were among people living in the Shoalhaven, including two from the 2541 area and one from the 2540 postcode.

Two of the three new detections are linked to known cases.

Kiama recorded no new cases for the ninth day in a row, while there were three in the Shellharbour Local Government Area and 17 in Wollongong.

There have now been 2,162 local cases of COVID-19 in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District since the start of the current outbreak in June.

At 8pm on Tuesday there were 31 COVID-19 patients being treated in the health district's hospitals.
