Homicide Squad, Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Walpole, thanked members of the public for their support and information provided to police following an appeal for information into the murder of 49-year-old David McArthur.

At about 8 pm on Sunday 25 July 2021, emergency services were called to a caravan park on Ethel Street at Sanctuary Point, following reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers entered a cabin and located David McArthur with a stab wound to his chest.

Officers attempted CPR however, he could not be revived and died at the scene.

A second man has been charged with murder following an investigation by Homicide Squad detectives.

The 41-year-old Nowra man was refused bail when he appeared before Nowra local court last week.

On Wednesday, October 20, detectives attended a correctional facility at Silverwater and charged a 39-year-old man with murder.

He remains before the courts.

“Detectives have worked tirelessly to put those responsible for David’s murder before a court, however the resulting arrests this week would not have been possible without the Sanctuary Point community’s ongoing assistance,” Det Ch Insp Walpole said.

He said, “David died because of an unnecessary act of violence and I’m hopeful his extended family and his parents, Susan and Stuart, feel as though some justice has taken place this week.”
