Slight drop in Shoalhaven COVID cases

There's been a slight dip in the Shoalhaven's new COVID cases, with 348 today - down from yesterday's high of 407.

Today's cases also included 64 cases from Kiama, 348 from Shellharbour and 631 from Wollongong among 1292 in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The district also recorded one death in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday - a woman in her 90s from Wollongong who was unvaccinated.

She was among 16 COVID-related deaths - 11 men and five women.

Two  were aged in their 50s, four were in their 70s, five were in their 80s and five were in their 90s.

Along with the Wollongong woman there were three people from Sydney’s south west, four from Western Sydney, two from Sydney’s Inner West, one from Sydney’s south, one from Queanbeyan, one from the Hilltops region, one from Newcastle, one from the Central Coast and one from Wagga Wagga.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,505.

There are currently 1,437 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, including 48 people in intensive care, 15 of whom require ventilation.

Across the state there were 22,255 new COVID cases in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday
