New Shoalhaven COVID cases growing

The Shoalhaven is contributing a growing proportion of the region's new COVID cases.

Today's figures showed 804 new cases in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, including 239 from the Shoalhaven.

There were also 55 cases in Kiama, 130 in Shellharbour and 380 in Wollongong.

They were among 15,334 new cases across the state

There were also  11 deaths - nine women and two men.

Two people were aged in their 60s, five were in their 80s and four were in their 90s.

Two of them were unvaccinated.

Four people were from Sydney’s south, three people were from Western Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s east, one person was from south western Sydney, one person was from northern Sydney, and one person was from the Central Coast.

This brings the total number of COVID-related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,545.

There are currently 1,584 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, including 70 people in intensive care, 24 of whom require ventilation.
