Bombo Quarry stairs need a name

July 31, 2023 9:54 am in by

Kiama Council’s Tourism Advisory Committee has requested Council staff engage Indigenous Elders to determine an appropriate name for the newly constructed stairs at Bombo.

Council is the meantime has acknowledged the delay to the opening of the Bombo Quarry staircase, part of the Bombo Headland Eco Walk.

The project to build a 13-metre staircase linking the bottom of the quarry with adjacent walking tracks and provide a viewing platform was first announced in April 2018.

The construction of the stairs was delayed by several issues, including significant holdups due to COVID lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, weather events that inundated the quarry as well as the supply issues that have been affecting the construction industry since the COVID pandemic, in this case delaying the fabrication of the stair balustrades.

Our contractors are currently working through the final stages of compliance, after which they will be able to hand ownership of the staircase back to Council.

Council said, once this happens it can announce an opening date for the staircase.
