Council to take pragmatic approach

The debate over the preservation of mountain bike trails across the Southern Highlands was reignited at Wednesday’s ordinary council meeting.

Adam Cooper from Highlands trails said, his hope was that the kids can work together with other stakeholders for the common good of the area.

Gaye White from WIN ZERO agreed with his sentiment saying that the development of any trails must align with the community’s overall vision for outdoor recreation in our natural areas.

And the Administrator Viv May raised concerns about potential liability issues.

“Where does that place the council officers if there was a tragedy and where does it place me for agreeing with the recommendation?

“However mountain biking in the shire is not going to go away,”Mr. May said.

Council is now working towards a solution that’s acceptable for everyone.
