The Moss Vale Magic honours three contributors

In addition to the 14 junior representative teams in 2024, the Moss Vale Magic will field three senior league teams for the first time in the club’s history, who will take part in the NSW Waratah League competitions.

This year, each of the teams will be playing in memory of three significant contributors to basketball within our community and within our state.

The Youth Men’s team is honouring former coach Richard Davies.

Rick was a coach, player, referee, and president of MVDBAI who created and coached Moss Vale’s first ever Youth Men’s team in 2011.

The Youth Men’s first home game on 16 March 2024 at 4pm will be dedicated to ‘Rick’

Moss Vale’s first ever Youth Women’s team is honouring the legacy of Keith Williams who was one of three ‘founding fathers’ of the Moss Vale & District Basketball Association along with Graeme Phillips and Brian Whyte.

Keith was a former player and former president of the MVDBAI.

One of Keith’s great granddaughters Lily Bentley will co-captain the team along with Isabel Moran.

The Youth Women’s first game on 20 April 2024 at 1pm will be dedicated to Keith.

The Waratah Men’s team are playing in memory of Scott Balsar who’s life was tragically cut short earlier this year.

Scott was a former coach and mentor of these players and was instrumental in the development of basketball at both a regional and state level.

The men will be playing a tribute game to honour ‘Scotty’ at Shoalhaven on 25 May 2024.
