Hundreds of veterans and current serving members have taken taken part in Anzac Day marches across the Southern Highlands.
In Mittagong, people gathered along Main Street to pay their respects.
Local historian and former Sub Branch President Steven Spence served in Vietnam and said it’s important, the government takes care of personnel when they return from service.
“Some of them come home and their wounds are physical and it’s very easy to see they’re struggling,
“For others, their wounds are mental, but they all need help and they’ve got to be full supported,”Mr. Spence said.
Not all former veterans could take part in the march, due to various ailments.
Ian Stacker from Berrima was one of those – We caught up with him at the Mittagong RSL.
“I served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, taking the troops up on HMAS Sydney, to and from Vietnam,
“We took all their gear up, trucks, spotter planes and helicopters,”Mr. Stacker said.
