Liberal Candidate for Kiama, Serena Copley, says communities across the Illawarra and South Coast are being left behind as mental health challenges continue to grow and men struggle to access support.
Ms Copley has backed the NSW Liberals and Nationals commitment to deliver a dedicated 10-year Men and Boy’s Health Strategy, saying regional communities can no longer afford to be ignored.

“A 10-year Strategy is about us saying that we don’t accept the status quo and want to deliver a better future for every man and boy in NSW where they have access to the health and support services that will ensure they thrive,” said Kellie Sloane.
“The strategy will set clear targets for reducing male suicide, strengthen prevention and early intervention pathways, and improve access to services in regional and outermetropolitan communities.”
Ms Copley said the issue is particularly important across the Illawarra Shoalhaven region, where suicide rates remain above the NSW and national averages.
“The Illawarra Shoalhaven region loses around 55 people to suicide every year, yet Labor still does not treat men’s health like a serious priority,”Ms Copley said.
“People across the electorate are tired of being overlooked by Katelin Mcinerney and the Minns Government, while many services continue to come under pressure.”
Ms Copley said an elected Liberal and National Government would deliver stronger early
intervention, suicide prevention programs and better access to mental health services for regional communities.
The Liberal candidate also highlighted the work of Mark Burns and The Man Walk, which started locally and has now grown to more than 94 locations across Australia, connecting over 153,000 men.
“At a time when many young people are also struggling, services like SENTRAL Youth Services are critical for our community,” Ms Copley added.
