Hairdressing students at TAFE NSW Nowra will benefit from upgraded, industry-standard facilities following a $915,000 investment by the Minns Labor Government, boosting training capacity and helping deliver the next generation of hairdressers for the Shoalhaven.
The upgrade has transformed facilities that were neglected by the former Liberal-National Government into a modern, purpose-built training space, increasing capacity from around six students to a contemporary space with 10 hairdressing stations and two dedicated barbering chairs. Students can now complete theory and practical training side by side, creating a more seamless, hands-on learning experience and better preparing them for the workplace.
The refurbishment includes additional workstations, increased storage, mobile furniture to support flexible training delivery, a dedicated wash and drying area, and upgraded technology including student laptops and interactive displays.
Accessible workstations and basins have also been incorporated, ensuring the facility is inclusive and is suitable for all students.
The expanded facilities also allow TAFE NSW to deliver a broader range of short and tailored courses, strengthen links with local salons and barbers, and create more flexible pathways into employment.
The Member for Kiama, Katelin McInerney MP, visited TAFE NSW Nowra to mark the completion of the upgrade, tour the new facilities, and meet with students and teachers.
This investment reinforces the NSW Government’s commitment to high-quality, industry-aligned training and building a skilled workforce to support growing regional communities.
Additional recent investment at TAFE NSW Nowra totals $760,000, delivering campus-wide improvements including new signage, EV charging infrastructure, lift replacement, improved heating and cooling systems, and enhanced training equipment.
