A new national survey has found that poverty rates are increasing alarmingly in the Shoalhaven.
Seventeen percent of Nowra residents are living below the poverty line, and sixteen percent in Ulladulla, according to the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling.
CEO of the Community Industry Group, Nicky Sloan, says people who have never needed assistance are relying on charity.
“We’re really seeing families and individuals who are litaerally starving because they can’t pay their mortage or their rent and feed themselves.”
People who are struggling to put food on the table can reach out to Salt Care Shoalhaven or the Nowra Community Food Store.
