School girl finds unexploded device

A young girl, collecting shells before school, has picked up an unexploded military marker on Bradys Beach north of Ulladulla yesterday (Tuesday February 27).

Her step father called South Coast Police, who evacuated the beach and set up an exclusion zone.

ADF bomb experts were called in to detonate the device.

Residents posting on social media said the explosion shook the local area.

An Australian Defence Force spokesperson said the device was identified as a Mk.58 marine marker.

The ADF’s key messages for the community are if anyone finds something they suspect might be unexploded ordnance:

·         Don’t move or touch it;

·         Keep people clear of the site; and
