Shoalhaven Councillor Paul Ell has moved an urgency motion at Monday night’s Ordinary Meeting for Council to stand in solidarity with Israel in the aftermath of the weekend’s terrorist attacks by Hamas.

The motion passed 9-2 with the support of Independent and Labor Councillors.

“I am pleased that my motion condemning the heinous terrorist attack on the people of Israel which occurred on the holy Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah was passed in Council tonight. I particularly thank Clr Serena Copley for being the seconder and for her strong words in favour.” Clr Ell said.

“The motion adopted tonight sees Council now join with the NSW state government and the Commonwealth in condemning this brutal carnage and resolving to stand shoulder to shoulder with the state of Israel.”

“We are all devastated about these attacks, and the loss of so many innocent lives, and our thoughts are with the people directly impacted. Our motion expresses Council’s support and sympathy for local residents of Israeli and Jewish heritage as they come to terms with these traumatic events.” Clr Ell said.

“It is especially heartening to see Councillors from across the political divide coming together for a bipartisan statement of support for the people of Israel. I thank all those Councillors who voted for this motion for their support and showing leadership.” Clr Ell concluded.
