The South Coast Labour Council has welcomed several announcements in this year’s Federal Budget.
Secretary, Arthur Rorris said, “Tripling the bulk billing incentive is a shot in the arm that Medicare needs. It won’t resolve all of the structural issues but is a necessary first step to stabilise the system and move it back to the principle of universal access.”
“The continuing commitment to TAFE including the 300,000 fee free places is very welcome and lays important groundwork to rebuilding TAFE.”
“This was a modest budget in many ways in addressing cost of living pressures but did move in the right direction including in raising payments for those doing it toughest such as single parent families, renters and to a lesser extent, job seekers.
We would like to see much more substantial increases in these areas given cost of living pressures,” he said.
