The State Government has put its foot down and won’t allow more councils to sign up to the ticketless parking fine system.

Minister for Finance Courtney Houssos has written to 128 councils statewide, raising concerns about the ticketless fine system.

The Minister wants councils to provide an on the spot notification to drivers, to let them know they’ve been booked and giving them a chance to collect evidence to review the fine.

Minister Houssos’s letter formally requests councils to provide an on the spot, written notification to drivers, for example, a small pre-printed card on their windscreen, when they issue a fine.

Minister Houssos said, ” We don’t believe in covert speed cameras and we don’t believe in covert parking fines.”

In 2023 Shoalhaven Council rangers issued 10,116 ticketless fines, raising $1,619,517.
