Kiama Municipal Council is appalled by the recent increase in vandalism with a toilet block adjacent to Kiama Harbour damaged in the early hours of Monday morning in the latest incident.
The toilet block was trashed and a fire was lit before authorities were notified and the blaze was extinguished by a crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 346 Kiama.
Council staff were forced to close the Black Beach foreshore facility due to the extensive damage to the toilets, walls and ceiling.
Vandals caused damage to other toilet blocks and artworks at the Kiama Sculpture Walk in April and with Kiama Police Station staffed only during daylight hours each day, there is concern over the increase in late-night antisocial behaviour.
Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald said he would be speaking with Kiama Member of Parliament Katelin McInerney about identifying solutions to this problem.
“I am disgusted by this kind of senseless and costly damage to our public facilities” he said.
“If anyone has any information on who vandalised this toilet block, I urge them to contact the Police.”
